She played with them for a couple minutes, beaming, before she stood up and faced Naji. She reached up and gently pet the one sitting on his shoulders before saying anything. "I think I like the brown one," Khalilah said, casting a glance in its direction.

"Of course!" Naji said. He held up his hands. "Wait here one moment." He said before disappearing into the back room.

After nearly a week of coaxing, bribing, and dodging mamma's claws he'd managed to get her and the kittens sleeping in a basket near the door instead of under the table at the back of the room. "Hey mamma," Naji said quietly. "Just want to borrow the prettiest ones for a moment."

The brown and black spotted one trotted over his feet, he scooped that one up, cradling it in the crook of his elbow. Another pretty tortoise shell one batted at his fingers so he picked her up as well. A pumpkin colored one and a brown one joined their siblings as well. He'd just turned to go when a slightly ungainly splotched one with enormous ears jumped for his pant leg. He shrugged and picked him up as well, placing him on his shoulder. If the little guy wanted to go then he might as well.

"Here they are," he said, moving carefully out of the store room and nudging the door closed behind him. Kittens leapt from his arms onto the pillowed chair next to him, immediatly begining to knead the soft surface and tussle with each other. The homely, big eared one stayed on his shoulder, chewing at Naji's earlobe. He made a few.
